Hello and Welcome to Recipe Eclectic
And with the statement “I really need to get all my recipes organized” – here I am. I don’t remember exactly when I started collecting recipes, but I have recipes for everybody and everywhere so the description “eclectic” is fitting. And the concept of a recipe website seemed to hit all my hot buttons – right-brained creativity and left-brained logic and organization.
Generally, this collection of recipes represent foods and dishes I would eat and could afford to prepare for my family. Although to be perfectly honest, my palette is a lot richer than my wallet! I am the oldest of 3 and grew up on a farm and I learned to cook mostly because my mom hated cooking. During haymaking season, my mom much preferred driving the tractor so I stayed in the kitchen with my grandmother. When I started taking home economics in middle school, I wanted to come home and try out what I learned to cook at school and my mother was more than eager to encourage my culinary curiousity. From there, I progressed to winning blue ribbons at the county fair for everything from apple pies to canned peas. In college, I always worked in the kitchen of several food service operations where I was able to continue learning, experimenting and tasting. But my real education began when I became a mother of 3 daughters and had to learn how to cook meals everyday for my family.
I think it was my ADD that started me collecting recipes because, even to this day, there are only a few recipes that I repeat – once I’ve cooked something once and tasted it, I’m ready to move on to the next creation. I think that’s the key – cooking is like art, true art. Don’t be afraid to try something new – what’s the worst thing that can happen?
I hope you enjoy the recipes and my occasional posts of random thoughts about cooking and life.
